Dr. Peter Blackburn

Dr. Peter Blackburn is an ophthalmologist specializing in retinal and vitreous diseases serving central and southeast Kentucky. He completed medical school in 1997 from the University of Colorado in Denver. He completed a year internship in 1998 in internal medicine at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton Ohio. Dr. Blackburn finished his ophthalmology residency at the Rocky Mountain Lion's Eye Institute at the University of Colorado in 2001. He then went on to finish a retina and vitreous fellowship at the University of Kentucky and the Retina and Vitreous Associates of Kentucky in 2003.

Dr. Blackburn is certified by the Board of Ophthalmology to practice ophthalmology. After finishing training, he spent a year in private practice in Colorado before returning to the bluegrass state for the University of Kentucky Department of Ophthalmology in Lexington where he has been since 2004.

Dr. Blackburn sees patients in Lexington at the University of Kentucky and Central Baptist hospitals. He also treats patients withvitreous and retinal diseases in the Richmond, London, Corbin, Somerset, and Campbellsville communities. He has a special interest in patients with ocular tumors and patients with retinopathy of prematurity besides patients with age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and uveitis.

Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Blackburn spent most of his formative years in Colorado. He enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his family.
